Welcome to the Minerva Center

The MINERVA Center, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 educational foundation. Since 1983 it has supported scholars, journalists, filmmakers, public policy activists and others engaged in the study of women and the military and women in war. It is non-partisan and does not engage in advocacy although it provides information to all individuals and groups who contact us.

For two decades, MINERVA published MINERVA: Quarterly Report on Women and the Military, a scholarly journal, and Minerva's Bulletin Board, a quarterly news magazine. In 1995, the MINERVA Center replaced the news magazine by launching H-MINERVA, a free resource affiliated with the H-NET consortium of scholarly discussion groups. Starting in 2007, the journal will appear as Minerva: Women and War, published by Heldref Publications. Since its founding, The MINERVA Center has been supported entirely by private contributions and sales of its books and journals.

It has had no other foundation, institutional, or corporate support. This year, MINERVA is launching the Minerva Society for the Study of Women and War (MSSWW), a professional scholarly association which will allow the Center to expand its activities. Those who join MSSWW as founding members before the end of 2006 will be listed on the roster of founders of MSSWW and their contributions will be tax deductible.
