Automation Management
What do we
ACTUALLY do?
Library Automation Management is a unique combination of consulting,
implementation, integration and hardware services specifically focused on
bringing computer systems to the small and medium-sized school or public
library.
While we customize our services
to the needs of the computer coordinator and librarian, in managing a typical
project, we will:
- establish a working relationship with the librarian to deal with the
planning and execution of all aspects of the automation of the library.
- work with your architects, engineers, and/or interior designers to achieve
a state-of-the-art library. new
- work with your hardware/networking vendor as required or we can provide
hardware and networking directly.
- plan out the system for immediate use and for long-range integration into
other Local-Area Networks in the school and any planned or operational
District Wide-Area Network.
- determine each library's local needs including electrical, telephone
outlets and physical placement of the computers.
- submit and carry out a practical timeline.
- supervise and coordinate the ordering and delivery all components.
- install, transfer and convert existing software from computers already in
the libraries.
- install barcode scanners, give guidelines and training on use.
- show methods for application of both smart and dumb barcodes.
- carefully configure new software with each librarian.
- load MARC data and assess the accuracy of the Retrospective Conversion.
- propose and perform complex global operations to improve catalog
data. new
- set up methods for data and system backups.
- specify and initially manage information resources including the Web and
state-of-the-art CD-ROM servers. new
- provide for computer security and virus detection.
- set guidelines for transfer of student data into the circulation system.
- set up Internet (WWW) connections.
- provide for access to the library's catalog via the Web both internally
and externally. new
- launch, develop, and/or improve a Web Site for the library. new
- integrate available resources from an easy start screen at each
workstation.
- provide the staff with overall hands-on system training.
- prep for library software-specific training.
- do follow-up Workshop on all library, software and hardware aspects of the
system.
- critique what you've got, make suggestions for real-life use of the system
and come back with follow up visits.
- be available for ongoing help as needed.
